Imagine a world on electric bikes where there are no driver’s licenses, no registration, no insurance, no big petrol bills, no big carbon deficit, and fun and fitness is important. This world can be here today….

And together we can make it happen… on an electric bike

The cycle challenge went absolutely fantastically.
Craig Killey rode ‘The Electro-Glide” and did brilliantly. Guim ” The Spanish Cowboy” Valls rode Dennisa and did superbly too.
I must say it was a very smoothly run event. Stephen Cox and his team were brilliant.  Sense and safety were paramount with fun a very close third. The weather was almost perfect with only one rough morning.
It was a privilege to be allowed to be involved.  I was very jealous watching everybody but me ride. For those of you that haven’t picked up on it yet, I love riding bikes and love riding electric bikes more. So to watch everyone ride 800 odd kms on the beautiful back-roads over mountains and through some spectacular scenery, on cutting edge road bikes and electric bikes was driving me nuts!!!!!!
However, being support is not without it’s challenges. Particularly the first time when we had little idea what we were in for. Dean, the best support driver that a tech could hope for, was superb. If I had to choose a phrase to describe Dean it would be ‘ Calm under pressure.”
Thanks Dean, I guess having daughters like we both do helps us learn to deal with high levels of intensity and stress…..
I was very impressed with the acceptance we received from the non-electric cyclists. “Roadies” have what I believe to be an unfair reputation for being aggressive and exclusive. I didn’t feel that at all. We were well received as enabling people who may not be able to participate in such a great ride to take part. I hope to swell the numbers in this event, it was great. Maybe even have a separate electric event. Who knows where this will lead?
The speed and style of these riders is breathtaking. Spectacular to watch and even better to take part. If I have my way, The Electric Bicycle Company will be there in spades next year. I even considered riding a non-electric after watching. ……..
I love riding, and to ride with 100+ other riders, a traffic management team, an ambulance and a sensible plan is like heaven. I could not recommend it more. It is the safest way to have a great ride.
I love the noise of the pack, and as an engineer, I just loved the quality of the bikes and the science behind it. I learnt more about bikes and riding in that week than I had learnt in the year before it.
Here are some videos and stuff that I took and Guim edited.

The Wellington-Auckland Cycle Challenge.

I can’t believe the naughty noughties are over.
Oh well. It was a great decade for us at The Electric Bicycle Company Limited.
This one should be even better.
We are entering the above challenge. I will be providing tech support for Craig Killey riding a custom built Giant Suede “Electro-Glide”.
I call it that because it rides soooooo smooth. Photos will be on my blog soon.
We also have Guim Villis here all the way from Barcelona.
“What is he doing here?”  I hear you think.
“How did he get here?” is a more relevant question.
He got here on his Wisper electric bike.
He is traveling around the globe to promote alternative transport. Nice chap actually. He is also intending to ride in the challenge. Here is his website, very interesting too.
It should be great fun. Anyone else who wants to enter an electric bike, I will provide tech support for. Get out there.

‘Orion Electric Christmas’ weekend at Ferrymead Heritage Park over the weekend of Saturday 28 & Sunday 29 November 2009.
We will be present at both events and will have a large range of bikes for people to see and try.
They will both be great events in their own right and we recommend attendance.
